Just like your smartphone or a pair of wireless headphones, a rechargeable vaporizer needs proper care to ensure the battery’s longevity and best performance. When charged correctly, a rechargeable vape’s battery can last for a long time, powering years of continued enjoyment. Whether your vape’s battery is built-in or removable, proper charging will increase the likelihood that your vape pen or portable vaporizer will perform at its best for many sessions to come.

How long does it take to charge a vape?

Charge time depends on several factors, including the battery’s size, the depletion of the battery, and the power source being used. For example, a fully-depleted vape pen charging via a computer’s USB port won’t charge as quickly as a half-depleted vape pen connected to a USB wall adapter.

PAX charge times are calculated from a totally-depleted battery to full charge while using the official charging cable connected to a USB wall charger (1A, not included). The PAX 2 takes approximately 2 hours to recharge through this method, while the PAX 3 takes approximately 90 minutes and the PAX Era takes approximately 45 minutes.

Connecting your vape to the charger

Whether your vape’s battery is built in or the batteries are removable, nearly every vape pen or portable vaporizer comes with the cables, docks, and other necessary equipment to recharge your vape.

The portable vape charger type can vary from device to device. Many vape pen models screw into a USB adapter, which can be connected directly to a USB power source. Others utilize micro USB charging ports.

All PAX devices arrive with the charging cables in the box. PAX 2 and PAX 3 recharge via USB; the device lays atop a cradle with a magnetic dock. PAX Era comes with a micro USB to USB cable. An AC adaptor and a portable USB-powered mini dock are available for purchase on the PAX website.

It’s important to note that you should only use the charger that came with your device. Even if you have compatible chargers from other devices, such as your smartphone or speaker charger, you should only use the original chargers that were included with your device or otherwise supplied by the manufacturer.

Detecting when your vape is fully charged

Many pen-style and portable vapes have an LED indicator which communicates the device’s status. While colors vary from vape to vape, a red light generally means the battery is depleted. On some models, the light turns green when the vape is fully charged. For PAX vaporizers, the LED indicator will blink red before the battery dies. The indicator will pulse while charging and will stop pulsing when charging is complete.

The PAX LED indicator is comprised of four “petals;” each petal corresponds to 25% battery life. For example, four white petals indicate that the battery is at full charge. Shake the device to activate the LED indicator on PAX 2, PAX 3, and PAX Era.

Vape Pen and Portable Vaporizer Charging Tips

  1. Always follow the instructions. Most vapes come with user manuals which provide details and best practices for charging your vape. Make sure to read, keep, and cite this guide as necessary.
  2. Don’t let the battery “sit on” the charger overnight. Remove your vape from the charger as soon as you can once it’s done charging. Leaving vapes on the charger longer than necessary could decrease the battery’s overall lifespan.
  3. Keep your device cool. Make sure your vape isn’t stored in extreme temperatures. Do not charge your vape in freezing temperatures or extreme heat. PAX recommends charging and storing your device at temperatures between 41°F (5°C) and 113°F (45°C).
  4. Use authorized accessories. Aftermarket cables and charging docks are not always manufactured and tested to the standards the vape company sets for its own products. Purchase replacement chargers from the brand’s official website or from an authorized seller.
