As you delve into the growing world of hemp CBD products, be prepared to encounter a dizzying array of options in states that permit different types of hemp CBD products. From the well-known, best-selling hemp CBD oil to more advanced products such as inhalers and transdermal patches, the options in some legal markets are seemingly endless, especially for someone new to hemp CBD.

Naturally, you may ask yourself if there’s a certain product that works better than another. Certainly, one product form is not superior to another. Is there truly any one best way to consume hemp CBD oil products? In short, it wholly depends on your goals when consuming hemp CBD.

Which Factors Affect How You Consume Hemp CBD?

Every person is different. How hemp CBD affects one person may not necessarily be true for the next person. That means you may need to go through some trial and error and test different formulations, brands, and product types before you find your preferred product.

Before you start shopping, though, review some basic information about your reasoning for consuming hemp CBD, which can help guide your decision.

  • Your overall goals: The way hemp CBD oil is administered can change its effect. For example, vaping hemp CBD will have a faster effect since it bypasses the stomach and liver, while eating hemp CBD oil in a gummy or other food item will take longer as it makes its way through your digestive system.
  • Type of hemp CBD you’re consuming: You’ll find three types of hemp CBD extract on the market: full spectrum, broad spectrum, and isolate. Full spectrum retains plant compounds as extracted from industrial hemp, including the terpenes and trace amounts of THC. Broad spectrum takes this extract and removes all traces of THC. Isolate is 99.9% CBD, stripped of all other terpenes and flavonoids. Some consumers only want to consume hemp CBD, while others want their hemp CBD to come with the other compounds found in industrial hemp.
  • Your personal preferences: You don’t have to change your routine to adapt hemp CBD oil into your lifestyle. If you don’t enjoy the consistency of oil, you can always try an infused baked good in states that allow hemp CBD as an edible. If you already vape, hemp CBD oil can fit nicely into that routine in states that permit it.
  • How much you want: Just like the product type, brand, and formulation can vary from person to person, so too does the dosage. A few milligrams of hemp CBD can be enough for one person, but barely make a blip for another. Start low and take it slow: try a small amount of hemp CBD product first and work your way up as you become more familiar with the product and its effects.

A Note on Hemp CBD Quality

It’s important to independently evaluate the quality of the hemp CBD oil product you plan to buy. There have been instances of mislabeled products which inaccurately represent the amount of hemp CBD contained within. Although not foolproof, always look for third-party lab results. These reports should be available on the manufacturer’s website or upon request. Other potential quality markers include domestic harvest and processing, production standards as verified by Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) certification, and production in a facility registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

Available Hemp CBD Products

Hemp CBD oil products break down into two major categories: oral ingestion and topical application.

Orally can be broadly applied to various sub-categories, including hemp CBD oil sublingual tincture, eaten or drank, and vaped. Each method varies in how it affects you due to the way this administration method interacts with your body. These products are only available in legal markets that allow hemp CBD in these specific forms.

Ingested products such as capsules, gummies, and other hemp CBD edibles make their way through the digestive system. This means that they are processed by the stomach, liver, and intestines just like any other food. These products take longer to affect the body as they make their way through the digestion process. Tinctures are used sublingually, under the tongue. This bypasses the digestion process, instead absorbing directly into the bloodstream. Inhaled products such as vapes (whether a pre-filled cartridge or vape additive) and inhalers have the fastest effect, as they also bypass the digestive system, instead entering the body through the lungs.

Topical products have as much variety as oral hemp CBD oil products. Topicals include lotions, body balms, and gels, to name a few. Self-care products such as face masks and bath bombs have cropped up in spas (and home spas!) throughout the U.S. in states that allow the addition of hemp CBD to those products. Low-profile, no-fuss transdermal patches have become an increasingly popular option, too.

Finding the Hemp CBD Oil Product that’s Right for You

There is no right or wrong answer as to the best way to take hemp CBD oil if your state allows different types of hemp CBD products. The product that’s best for you is truly based on your circumstances, and those circumstances change from person to person. Your reasoning for taking hemp CBD and your personal preference for product type will steer you toward the right category, whether that’s the leading hemp CBD oil or something more unique like a bath bomb. Test out different products until you find the right fit!
